Lex had his first holy sacrament of baptism on Aug. 27, 2005. It was pretty cool, basically the same as MJs. The cool thing about getting them baptised down south is that they do the whole thing in a baptismal pool, where the child is immersed in water, and not just getting a couple of splashes from the baptismal font like we see up here.

I hear that this has nothing to do with being north or south, but more to do with that only the newer churches need to have the pools. Catholicism isnt very big down south so a lot of the churches are pretty new, as they are built to accomodate need. Up here it seems like everyones Catholic. Between the heavy immigrant populations of Irish, Italian, and Latinos, Catholicism has pretty much had Chicago on lock since the old days. And because of that, most of our churches are pretty old, which means all of the baptisms I've seen up until this point were the hold the baby over the fountain / dump some water over his head / badda bing badda bang see you at the reception hall for some lumpia and leche flan...

So getting to see this type of baptism was pretty enriching, cuz not only was my kid getting baptised, but I was actually seeing something that is pretty new to me as well. Adding to the newness was the fact that the entire thing was in spanish. Mother and Godmother know spanish. Father and Godfather do not. Watching the video afterwards was pretty funny cuz me and Rich were just standing staring straight ahead the entire time not even pretending we knew what was going on. Rich stuck out even more cuz hes taller and was the only person in the building with blond hair and blue eyes.

All in all, the weekend was good. I got to see my family, which was nice. Its amazing how small children can grow in 2 weeks. Unbelievable. Anyways, thats all for now.
